Deb

Deb John studied Textiles and Fashion at Saint Martin’s School of Art, London but had been working with clay well before then. She has been employed exclusively as a potter since the mid-1990s.

The Flint Pottery; her studio at the foot of The Downs near Lewes in Sussex, was established in 2012.

From The Flint Pottery Deb makes birdbaths, pinch pots, plates, bowls and mugs. They are a mixture of "hand built" and "thrown" and are  decorated with glazes that she makes herself.

The ceramic birdbaths are all made from stoneware clay which is suitable for outdoors and are fired at a high temperature to make all pieces more frost proof. Her pinch pots are ideal for salt and pepper etc and these and the homeware are decorated with slips and glazes.

Deb works in an energetic, vigorous and spontaneous style and strives to reveal the wonderful properties of clay and glaze.
